ILSF 2022: Acoustic Painting

Project Details

Description

Make sound visible! Nowadays it is possible thanks to the so-called sound camera. Of
a sound camera it is possible to find out where sound comes from, how loud
it is and also what are the frequency components present in the sound. This one
information is then typically displayed visually on top of a classic camera image in order to
to find out where the sound is coming from in a particular environment. In this
project we wish this unique way to reproduce sound, with the general public
to make known. We wish to do this by providing 3 experimental modes where
participants through a small wireless speaker in combination with a sound camera
create a unique sound painting. The participants receive a loudspeaker that they
as a virtual brush. By moving the speaker in the
recording field of the sound camera, one can then make a digital painting. In addition
the technological and scientific principles behind the sound camera and the
its use for a range of sustainable and artistic applications explained through a
animation movie.
