International W&T-collaboration: postdoc fellowship S. PASTERIS

This project aims at the unravelling of the biodiversity of lactic acid bacteria (LAB) in poorly understood complex ecosystems and at improving the genomic identification of LAB, an important basis for the development of high throughput identification and screening techniques and of microarrays that are necessary for the development of new, functional starter cultures of LAB for food fermentation processes and as probiotics in disease prevention. It should be stressed that the techniques to be developed in the frame of this project will be useful for other groups of microorganisms too, underlying the generic nature of this study.
