Over the years, the measurement problem became more sophisticated. Nowadays measuring is a complex process consisting of three main steps: the design of an expezriment, the building of a model for the studied problem and the estimation (=measuring) of the parameters involved in the model. To get a maximal efficiency, it is necessary to integrate all these activities in a single approach. Maximal efficiency can be translated as minimal measuring time, maximal accuracy, minimal cost,...depending upon the personal needs and goals of the customer. Before optimizing the entire procedure, it is necessary to get an idea of the complexity of the individual steps. The whole process should be controlled by an intelligent system so that also non-skilled users can get correct results with very complex measurement techniques.
