Safety and the ability to collaborate directly with humans require actuation principles more strongly focused on weight and efficiency to enable human-centered robotics. Planetary gear trains offer a large design space capable of accommodating very different needs at the cost of high complexity. In this project we aim at assessing the potential of a new gear technology developed by the R&MM group of the VUB. In particular, we aim to enable planetary gear trains to match the needs of the future generation of human-centered robotic devices..
