Journalism of Connectivity. How Social Media affect Journalism Practice, News Coverage and Public Participation in the Netherlands and Flanders

Project Details

Description

This project studies the impact of social media on journalism practice and how this affects news coverage in the Netherlands and Flanders. Its central research questions are:
a) how do political, sports and local reporters from newspapers and public and commercial broadcasters integrate social media in their daily news gathering routines and how does this impact professional identity;
b) how do journalists and news organizations use (information from) social media in their news texts and publishing strategies; and
c) how do social media impact the content and form of news and information dissemination essential for sustainable democratic societies. Is a new "journalism of connectivity" emerging?
