Molecular research to an ecological adaptation: toe pads in anurans

Project Details

The multiple independent emergence and disappearance of a complex organ such as toe pads is perhaps one of the most fascinating aspects of adaptive radiations in frogs. The objectives of this project are:

1. Isolation and identification of genes distally expressed in fingers and toes.

2. Identification and annotation of genes directly involved in the development of toe pads.

3. Research on quantitative and spatial differences in gene expression.

4. Research on the evolution of toe pad specific genes in frogs.
