The recent discovery of ELIC, a bacterial GABA-activated ion channel, opens new opportunities to pursue structural insight into ion channel function. In the current proposal we will take advantage of cutting-edge technologies, including nanobody-assisted crystallography, chemical biology and cysteine-trapping to study three essential aspects of ion channel function.
