New vulnerable groups in the Belgian health care system.

Project Details

Description

The aim of this research project is to give an extensive and accurate description of those groups in society that experience a vulnerable position with regard to the Belgian health care system. This with special attention for the influence of globalising social and economic relations on the accessibility and the (in)equality of health care for these groups.
More specifically, the following research questions will be answered : (1) Which groups in society can be described as 'vulnerable' within the health care system ? (2) What are the socio-economic and demographic profiles of these groups ? (3) What are the main problem areas and needs in terms of health care ? (4) Which are possible solutions / policy measures for the identified problems ?
This research project will meet two shortcomings of the Belgian research into socio-economic inequalities in health. Namely, the insufficient translation of the research material into concrete policy proposals and the high degree of fragmentation of the Belgian research into this topic.
First, in an explorative phase, existing evidence and data will be analysed and systemised. Afterwards the conclusions from the explorative phase will be checked in an empirical phase. This phase enclosed a Delphi-study and a number of in depth interviews.
