Aim and Objectives The nucleoside hydrolases (NH, EC 3.2.2.-) catalyse the hydrolysis of the N-glycosidic bond in ribonucleosides1, following the reaction scheme: ?-purine (or pyrimidine) nucleoside + H2O ? purine (or pyrimidine) base + ribose The NH's are widely distributed in bacteria, protozoa, fungi, plants and insects but they are conspicuously absent in mammals.
