Project Details

This project aims at the development of a chronotypology of glass vessels in medieval and early modern Brabant. It uses historical, arthistorical and archaeological sources.
It wants to develope an adequate methodology for the analysis of the archaeological glass material. With these tools a chronoloy and evolution scheme are constructed. Also natural sciences are brought in the project to analyse the chemical composition of the glass vessels, in order to study their production centres.
With this, we want to study the transfers in technological knowledge on glass vessel production in NW Europe. The next aim is the research of consumption and distribution patterns of drinking glass vessels, through written and archaeological sources, a.o. inventroies of medieval and early modern households in Antwerp.
