Classic Computed Tomography Angiography (CTA) typically offers a visualisation of vascular structures by performing a single CT acquisition over a structure of interest after injection of an iodine based contrast agent. During this static examination, no dynamic information, such as blood velocity, is obtained. We believe that this dynamic information can be an added value for the examination of cardiovascular structures. The objective of this project is therefore to add a dynamic aspect to CTA imaging for improved anatomical and dynamic assessment of vascular structures. Initially, this project will focus on dynamic, time resolved CTA on the lower limbs for the examination of patients suffering from peripheral arterial disease (PAD). PAD is a cardiovascular disease that causes partial or complete narrowing of the arteries, predominantly in the lower limbs. Currently, the existing diagnostic tests only provide information on the characteristics of the occlusions. They do not provide sufficient information on the dynamics of the blood flow nor on the effect of those occlusions. Therefore, we examine the added value of time resolved CT angiography in the diagnosis of PAD.
