Rights of Children in sport: possibilities of the official sport organisations to implement and evaluate the Panathlon declaration.

Project Details

Description

Several experts in different domains worked together on an ethical code as a visible act of a moral and social commitment in youth sport. This Panathlon Charter on Children's Rights intends to formulate proposals to reverse some negative effects of the devaluation of youth sport and to raise these proposals at national as well as international level. Especially policy-makers in sport clubs and federations and youth coaches are faced by a collective responsibility.
The central question is how will the local, national and international structures implement and evaluate their action plans for (more) child-centered sport. The aim of our study is to create a system in order to be able to give labels to the sport clubs and federations for their concrete approach of the rights of children in sport. In a first phase the policy documents of a selected amount of sports federations and clubs will be analyzed, followed by in-depth interviews of policy makers, youth coaches and youngsters to reflect on pro's and contra's of introducing the labeling system.
