Project Details
Description
Morocco has limited water resources, and faces substantial pressure onits sustainable water management and its protection. Water use isalready under severe water stress, mainly due to climate change, pollution and population growth, especially in the oases that contributeto the economic development. The WASIS project contributes to expandthe use of the most recent technical solutions with an innovative anddemonstration work based on modeling tools for integrated watermanagement, using a smart platform that uses sensors to provideinformation in real time on the water availability in the reservoirs andthe water need for the crops. These will be integrated into a GIS-basednumerical model for groundwater/surface water flow coupled to a DSS,which calculates the optimal water allocation from the dam reservoir orthe aquifer or both to irrigate the oasis and/or to recharge the aquiferfrom the dam reservoir. This DSS-platform will assist the decision makersin monitoring and planning water resources in the area based on the realneeds of crops/palm/population
