Project Details
Description
As the demand for ubiquitous data access continues to surge, novel data communication technologies are emerging to enhance existing communication systems. Among these technologies, optical wireless communication
(OWC) stands out by utilizing the visible and near-infrared portion of the electromagnetic spectrum. OWC offers a promising alternative or complement to traditional radio wave-based communication, but several challenges must be overcome before widespread implementation.
The SPADCOMM project aims to address these challenges. It focuses on developing a plug-and-play prototype
device based on single-photon detectors. This innovative device enables the practical implementation of an OWC communication system even in harsh environments characterized by severe signal attenuation and high
levels of ambient noise. The SPADCOMM prototype will be demonstrated in various relevant scenarios,
including indoor office spaces, vehicle-to-vehicle communication (V2V) between headlights of vehicles, and outdoor communication across two buildings.
