Subsidy: 'eye for Diabetes' (Citizen Science project)

Project Details

Diabetes is a major social problem and affects many citizens. The number of people at risk for developing diabetes will only increase further in the next decade. More attention should therefore be paid to diabetes and the health consequences of this disease. One of the major complications is eye problems due to diabetic retinopathy. Today, screening for this eye disease is a problem because too few people are tested and also because they are not good screening tools. In the context of “Eye for Diabetes” we want to pay more attention to this and we want the citizen to play an active role in collecting images of the eye (retina photos) that can be used further in research to develop software programs that should make screening possible. in the future
