Project Details
Description
E-commerce is a rapidly evolving and growing sector. The sector is a stayer but is struggling to organise last-mile deliveries, both from an economic, environmental and social point of view. The fact that many different actors are involved within the sector and parcel delivery in particular means that working out working solutions for making the sector more sustainable is not straightforward. It should also be noted that the negative consequences and burdens are mainly suffered locally (air pollution, congestion, nuisance, social conditions, etc.), while the profits and margins are mainly internationally with the online platforms. This discrepancy is very much felt by all actors and should be considered if a fair and sustainable e-commerce system is sought.
