Project Details
Description
Marnix of Saint Aldegonde was one of the key personalities of the Dutch revolt and the right hand of William the Silent. Besides this, he was of great importance in the field of lettres, philosophy and religion. With this project we have the intention to publish his correspondence from the period 1582-1585 for the first time in a modern, critical edition based on the method developed by the Union Académique Internationale. To achieve this goal, first of all we have to collect photographic material of all letters, drafts, copies, preserved in the different archives of Europe. Then follows the transcription of the apparatus criticus. All the letters get an introduction, summary and commentary. In doing so, we are sure to produce an instrument that will be indispensable for the historians of this fascinating period.
