Project Details
Description
Belgium is characterised by a system of early retirements. When people
go into early retirement at the age of 50-55, they often still have one
third of their entire life to go, for at the moment, the average life
expectancy is 85 years. As such, the question rises how people deal
with this long-term inactivity. We nearly know nothing about the
consequences of long-term, post-active age. The project focuses upon the following
questions: how active do the retired remain, will a long post-active
agelead to more or less wellbeing, more or less health and more or less
social integration? Within this project a sample of a 1500 Flemish
75-year- old people will be interviewed to be able to assess the
effects of long-term retirement.
