The morphogenesis of poliovirus: fundamental and applied research.

The goal of this project is to extend a study of the morphogenesis of poliovirus. In this study we shall focus on the unraveling of the virus assembly-process. New developed separation techniques and new fundamental insights in the morphogenesis process can benefit to this project. On the other hand, we can make use of the know-how which we obtained during years of morphogenesis research to develop a new polio-vaccine. One of the priorities of the Children's Vaccine Initiative of the WHO is the development of a thermostable Polio Vaccine. Hereby confirming the importance of this project.
