Description
Due to thé complex web of shelters and procédures, information about unaccompanied minor newcomers
in Brussels is fragmented. Because little is known about their life-trajectories in adulthood, it is hard to evaluate thé mechanismswhich prépare them for adultlife. In response, thisprojectadoptsathreefold approach:
l. Through in-depth interviews with stakeholders, we will map thé complex web of shelters and procédures
in which unaccompanied minor newcomers find themselves. Q.uestions to be answered include: How are
unaccompanied minor newcomers in Brussels curontly being prepared for adulthood? Which actors are
involved in thé support of unaccompanied minor newcomers in Brussels? Which information do thèse organisations hâve about their trajectories ofsocio-economic intégration? How do différent organisations work
together? Our answer to thèse questions will result in a report with recommendations for improvements.
2. Through a qualitative, longitudinal and inductive approach, we will study thé divergent socio-economic
intégration trajectories of unaccompanied minor newcomers from thé moment they corne of âge. Relying
on a séries of in-depth interviews conducted aver a period oftwo and a halfyears, we reveal thé interrelations between residential trajectories and paths of socio-economic intégration in thé first years of adulthood.
By focusing on thé wide range of actors thèse young adults interact with during this period, we will also
investigate thé rôle of différent stakeholders in this process. Questions to be answered: Where do unaccompanied minor newcomers settle after they hâve corne of âge? What impact does their place of résidence
hâve on theirsocio-economic intégration? Which actors dotheyencounterintheirfirstyears ofadulthood?
How do thèse actors impact upon their socio-economic intégration? Thé answer to thèse questions will resuit in a leaflet with guidelines for organisations who interact with unaccompanied minors.
3. Based on thé info gathered in l. ) and 2. ) we will réalise a protocol that works towards a better socioéconomie intégration of unaccompanied minor newcomers in Brussels. Developed in close collaboration
with thé partners, thé protocol will be tested, evaluated and revised before thé end of thé project. Questions
to be addressed: How can unaccompanied minor newcomers in Brussels be better prepared for their life as
young adults? Which methods and partners could be mobilised to achieve this?
