Description

Viruses are obligatory intracellular parasites, but some of them can be de novo synthesized in a cell-free system. In this study, the replication cycle of poliovirus is studied in such a cell-free system, which is programmed with viral RNA (i.e., transcript RNA).
The final goal of this study, which is performed in close relationship with the research group of E. Wimmer (SUNY at Stony Brook, NY, USA) is threefold :
(1) detection of the encapsidation signal on the viral genome
(2) study of the initiation of the synthesis of the negative strans of the genome and
(3) use of the cell-free system to study the targets of antiviral compounds
