welfare-seekers or humanitarian refugees? migration, health and ethics

Project Details

Description

The proposal concerns the medical dimensions of migration and alien policies and is a continuation of an EU Marie Curie Postdoctoral Research Project that was started at the University of Warwick - titled: Welfare seekers or humanitarian refugees? Immigration and Residence in the EU on the basis of humanitarian and medical grounds: rights, policies and lived realities. This research focuses on the ethical issues and principles of a normative framework that can guide legitimate decision-making (criteria and procedures). Different perspectives (migrants and policymakers) and experiences are questioned from a critical ethical perspective. A central issue concerns the right to health and the just distribution of global health care. Other questions that are dealt with are medical border control, expertise and advise in the context of asylum and removal decisions, as well as different definitions of health and well-being.
