A High Efficiency and High Step-Down Conversion LDC Converter in Mulifunctional On-Board Charger

Abstract

This paper proposes a new hybrid converter (HC) topology for the low voltage dc-dc (LDC) converter in a Multifunctional On-board Charger (MOBC) application. The HC is an integration of a Phase-Shifted Full-Bridge (PSFB) converter and a Forward (FW) converter. These two converters share H-bridge switches at the primary side and the output capacitors at the secondary side. Compared with the conventional PSFB or FW converter, the proposed HC can achieve a high step-down conversion. In addition, thanks to the sharing output capacitors at the secondary side, the input power can be delivered to the output load during the freewheeling interval of the PSFB converter. Hence, this can reduce the current ripple of the output inductor. In addition, the H-bridge switches of PSFB converter can achieve a full ZVS range, while the ZCS turn-off at the leading-leg is obtained by getting the trade-off between the leakage inductor and the output capacitor values.
