A multi proxy model for the reconstruction of the environmental history using bivalve shell composition

Research output: Contribution to journalOther scientific journal contribution

Abstract

Every plankton species is characterized by his own chemical signature and his own ecological niche. This means that a chemical composition of a total plankton fraction is linked to precise environmental conditions. If we suppose a direct correlation between plankton composition and shell composition, successive plankton blooms could give a perfect explanation for the non linear patterns that are observed in high resolution profiles of trace elements in bivalve shells. In this poster we propose a n-dimentional polygonal model to describe environmental variations.
