Abstract

The gray zone problem is the biggest challenge in modern-day numerical weather prediction models. The transition region between mesoscale and large eddy simulation scales could aid in accurately simulating the energy cascade. The following work proposes a new gray zone-capable planetary boundary layer scheme and its implementation in the weather research and forecasting model.
