A Portrait of the Artist as a DJ. Notes on Ina Wudtke

Dieter Lesage

Research output: Book/ReportBook

The practice of DJing has had a defining formal impact on Ina Wudtke's work as a visual artist. Through her work, hip hop has made the very delicate move from the street to the gallery. The 'posse' with which Ina Wudtke made this move was 'the NEID Magazina', which became yet another of Wudtke's alteregos, as the posse gradually fell apart and its members went their own way. Because of the great diversity of her activities, The New York Times once described Ina Wudtke as 'something of a Renaissance woman: an artist, DJ and publisher of Neid, a magazine of avant-garde writings on gender and identity'. This book is the first full-scale attempt to describe the work of the 'agente provocatrice' of the contemporary German arts scene.
