Algols contribute to the interstellar mass

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingConference paper

    Abstract

When the mass transfer rate between binaries exceeds a critical value, the mass gainer spins up and develops a hot spot with a combined energy that exceeds the binding energy of the system. If this is the case the amount of mass transfer above the critical value will leave the system and contribute to the interstellar medium.
