Abstract

The purpose of this text is to consider the systems that have been developed by countries to enable the combination of elite sport and study in order to increase the potential for athletes to perform in an international arena. Findings from a recent study in Flanders will be used to illustrate whether these elite sport systems -called elite sport schools in the text- have been effective, in terms of sport results, study results and processes.
