Abstract

This study provides an overview of current research on political text analysis, its benefits and challenges, and its socio-ethical implications in the absence of a clear legal and ethical framework. It focuses on the ethical, societal, and legal challenges scientific researchers encounter when using Big Data for political text analysis, and argues that data protection principles can support researchers to use data ethically.
