Abstract
Since 1998 the mediation service 'Suggnomè' has been active in the Dutch part of Belgium, Flanders. They have played an important role in the starting off, the implementation and the organization of the victim-offender mediation.
During the past 10 years this mediation service has been trying to establish a close collaboration with the different kinds of Victim Support Services scattered all over Flanders. The expansion of this collaboration pairs with ups and downs due to difficulties and contradistinctions regarding content and practice.
In this workshop the diverse experiences resulting from this collaboration will be highlighted. In addition the current situation in the matter of mediation and its collaboration with Victim Support Services will also be presented.
Starting from these experiences and looking forward to the future we would like to formulate some recommendations towards possible prospective collaborations between mediation services and Victim Support Services. The main topics offered in this workshop will be centred round the following questions:
1. How did the collaboration between the mediation services and Victim Support Services arise in Flanders and which are the obtained experiences?
2. Which recommendations can we give the mediation services or the Victim Support Services that would like to construct this kind of collaboration or would like to extend such collaboration?
