Abstract

Faced with the problematic of insufficient popular involvement in the design of city spaces, the objective of the research is to systematize theoretical debates and practical applications of methodological alternatives applied to participatory urban design. From introductory theoretical-conceptual foundations, the methodological-procedural proceedings were based on bibliometric analysis and systematic review of scientific articles, being structured in three main stages: data collection in international and Latin American journals, interpretation of texts pre-selected according to analytical variables (locations, approaches, referential concepts and participation and/or collaboration techniques), and identification of options in more recent works. The results indicate the relevance of repositories of a global nature; practical studies, notably in European countries; conceptual contributions in urban planning and related areas; and the use of varied techniques, with a predominance of technological solutions, in parallel with the collaboration between specialists and lay people. As a conclusion, it appears the need to develop theoretical debates and to combine practical applications aimed at improving scientific findings.
