Abstract

Insomnia is the most widespread sleeping disorder in the general population and in patients with chronic pain. As current studies show a clear correlation between sleeping disorders and pain, it is relevant that physiotherapists have a basic knowledge of this problem to provide optimal care for patients with chronic pain. In this article, the authors present a basic model of the development and chronification of insomnia and provide insights into the non-pharmacological therapy of the symptoms. The aim is to raise awareness for the topic among physiotherapists and show what role physiotherapy could play in the treatment of insomnia.
