Abstract

In the liner shipping industry, digitalisation is gaining momentum and being positioned as the
industry's future, much like various other sectors. This study seeks to uncover the drivers of dynamic
pricing strategies and the managerial and technological skills liner shipping businesses need to adopt
digitalisation best practices. It aims to contribute to the expanding field of research on digitalisation in
liner shipping. Qualitative research is conducted through semi-structured interviews with industry
professionals and a review of pertinent literature on dynamic pricing and digitalisation within this
sector. Thematic analysis of expert interview transcripts is employed to identify the primary drivers
for dynamic pricing adoption in liner shipping along with their potential benefits, as well as the
essential managerial and technological competencies required for successful adoption. The findings
provide valuable industrial insights and lay the groundwork for future research while also offering
recommendations for improving management and commercial practices within the liner shipping
industry.
