Abstract

We are excited to present the first issue of Current Research in Toxicology (CRTOX)! This is a new primary research, gold open access journal from Elsevier devoted to publishing original research on a broad range of toxicology subfields. Drawing from various, overlapping disciplines, CRTOX aims to publish high-caliber science and translation of toxicological studies with attention to research linking mechanistic pathways to apical effects in vulnerable subpopulations and life stages. We particularly welcome the submission of novel research propelling the future of toxicology as well as work in-demand for today's cutting-edge alignment in systems toxicology, computational and synthetic biology, bioengineering and data-science. We also strongly encourage the use of animal-free and human-based methods. Please refer to the journal homepage Aims and Scope.

CRTOX is a peer-reviewed ‘gold open access’ journal. This means that upon acceptance all articles are permanently and freely available. It is a companion to the highly regarded review journal Current Opinion in Toxicology and is part of Elsevier's Current Opinion and Research (CO+RE) suite of journals. All CO+RE journals leverage the Current Opinion legacy - editorial excellence, high-impact, and global reach, to ensure they are a widely read resource that is integral to scientists' workflow. Our Editorial Board brings depth and breadth of expertise and experience to the journal. This is reflected individually by reputation and publication record, as corporately by scientific, geographic, and sectoral diversity. This inclusive strategy builds on Elsevier's reputation for excellence in scientific publishing and long-standing commitment to communicating reproducible biomedical research targeted at improving human health.

Our editorial review policy at CRTOX strives to be fast, firm and fair. A quick triage will inform authors within a few days if their manuscript is not well-suited for the publication priorities of CRTOX. Pre-submission inquiries are welcome. To those submissions fitting the journal scope, an editorial assignment and peer review is fast and publication of final manuscripts instantaneous. The Editors and Publisher firmly believe in the highest ethical standards for scholarly or professional publishing, including best practices in reporting (e.g. ARRIVE checklist for research involving animal subjects), avoiding scientific misconduct, and protecting reviewer confidentiality (for more information refer to http://www.elsevier.com/conflictsofinterest). Published articles will get high visibility and maximum exposure on an industry-leading platform that reaches a vast global audience.
