FRACTURE OF THICK BONDED JOINT UNDER PURE MODE I LOADING CONDITIONS. EXPERIMENTAL STUDY AND CHALLENGES

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingConference paper

Abstract

Adhesives are vital to the structural integrity of composite-made wind turbine blades. To design an optimal blade it is necessary to have a deep insight into the adhesive joints’ behavior. In this study, different data reduction schemes have been analyzed to find the energy release rate of the thick adhesive joint. To accomplish this, composite adherends were glued together using a 10 mm thick adhesive layer and evaluated under pure mode I loading conditions. To analyze the fracture property of the joint, a new approach based on multi-sample experiments is developed.
