From Silence to (Data) Science: Rectifying Women's Health Data Gaps in Perinatal Violence and Gynecologic Cancer

Research output: Unpublished contribution to conferencePoster

Abstract

Access to accurate information is closely linked to
comprehensive data collection, and both are critical to effective
responses to women's health issues in the digital era [1-3].
Obstetric [4] and perinatal violence [5], a subset of gender-based
violence during pregnancy, pose serious risks to mother and
child. Similar gender disparities exist in gynecologic cancer
screening for nonbinary people. Yet, gynecologic cancer is a
significant public health challenge that requires accurate and
timely information for effective prevention, diagnosis, and
treatment [6]. Digital technologies offer transformative
potential in both of these areas. However, significant data gaps
remain, affecting quality of care and patient and survivor
outcomes [7-8]. This work in progress based on the state-of-the-
art synthesis explores the current landscape of information
accessibility and gender discrimination in women's health data
processing [9], identifies key data gaps in obstetric and perinatal
violence and gynecologic cancer care, examines how digital
technologies perpetuate gender bias and discrimination, and
enhances data collection in these contexts.
