Abstract
This paper examines whether the two countries will be able to meet there needs without entering into a downward spiral of rivalry. An assessment of the two giant's needs and policies reveals numerous frictions. However, harsh competition also started to foster a new sense of economic interdependence. This in turn has lead to the initiation of a few cooperative initiatives. For the long haul, China and India are still locked in a dilemma, and the necessity for short-term gains might easily alter the weak cooperation.
