Abstract
In 2011, 11 % of the total fleet consisted of newly registered passenger cars (571.474 cars), 13 % of second-hand cars (708.401 cars). The new fleet has grown by 7 % compared to 2008 and even by 17 % compared to 2009, the year where the financial crisis had its strongest impact on vehicle registrations. So after a year where 9 % less new cars were registered, the market seems to have revived again in 2010 and 2011. Due to the crisis, consumers postponed the purchase of a (new) car, but also bought more second-hand cars, of which 3 % more were registered in 2009 compared to 2008. In 2010 a little more second-hand cars were registered, but especially in 2011 the market grew with 9 %.
