Abstract

As a dramaturge, Marianne Van Kerkhoven has acquired a unique place in the performing arts landscape. Her career reads like a collection of crucial moments in recent Flemish-Dutch theater history since 1968. After her untimely death in 2013, various institutions reflect on her artistic, critical and scientific legacy. This includes Anoek Nuyens and Esther Severi, who, commissioned by the Kaaitheater, started research into the career of Marianne Van Kerkhoven in 2018. Together with Ronald Geerts, they want to bring her work to a new generation of theater makers, enthusiasts and academics who were not allowed to get to know her. It is an invitation to get to work with Marianne's legacy, to reflect on it, to test it against today, or to pass it on to the next generations.
