Abstract

Battery safety is an important aspect of electric vehicles. This study investigates the relationship between battery safety and coolant electrical conductivity in the case of coolant leakage. When a leak occurs, there is a potential external short circuit in the battery which may cause the battery temperature to increase sharply. A modified lumped electric-thermal model is employed to investigate the battery electric-thermal behaviour under this situation. Based on this model, the battery short-circuit by different coolant electrical conductivity is analyzed to investigate the relationship between the coolant electrical conductivity and battery safety.
