In view of forthcoming reallotment procedures in the rural community of Merksplas, some agricultural parcels were subjected to preventive archaeological assessment. One area in particular showed to be extremely rich in final Paleolithic and Mesolithic artifacts. Surveys in the immediate surrounding learn that the site stretches along the northwestern edge of the nearby valley of the small river Mark. Diverse traces of recent disturbance were observed in the field.
