Abstract
Akademos is one of the most important and revealing collaborations between queer intellectuals of the early 20th century. Although the magazine only existed for a year in 1909, it played a key role in the rise of queer awareness in France and Europe at that time. Baron Jacques d’Adelswärd-Fersen, the magazine’s founder, rallied a whole group of queer intellectuals around this project, with the aim of defending their love. In this article, we study the documents (some of them unpublished) that enable to follow Jacques d’Adelswärd-Fersen’s efforts to persuade those he addressed to ask for their contributions. On the one hand, these documents show how the Baron’s solicitations dissuaded certain intellectuals, queer or otherwise, from contributing to the magazine ; on the other hand, they reveal how a network of Akademos contributors was formed around the project.
