Abstract
This article summarizes the results of the masterclass "Zoom in | Zoom out - Brussels hypercentre: from pedestrian area to urban project" organised jointly by BSI-BCO and perspective.brussels in January and February 2018. It presents a detailed definition of the hypercentre on which the work of the participants took place and developed within the researches of the BSI-BCO. The authors also present the reseach methods and results of the project-based research conducted by the participants. A general vision of the hypercentre emerges along three strategic axes: 1) enlarge the perimeter by including the area within the circular metro loop (line 2), the canal and the stations; 2) structuring the hypercentre around a mesh of public spaces favorable to soft mobility and ecological services; 3) develop support programs for a cosmopolitan urban culture.
