Abstract
Until recently, it was assumed that the environmental impacts of the fabrication and erection processes of steel structures were marginal compared to the primary steelmaking proces. Research has pointed out that steelwork contractors are very much able to analyse these impacts. This paper reports on the reserach that has been carried out (as a first !) in order to determine the environmental impacts of five steel civil engineering works (bridges and lock doors).
