Music, Voice, and (De)Narrativization in Samuel Beckett’s Radio Play 'Cascando'

Abstract

This chapter combines insights from genetic criticism and audionarratology to illustrate how acoustic properties such as music and voice are used to denarrativize language in Samuel Beckett's radio play 'Cascando' (1961). In doing so, the chapter shows the importance of manuscripts, production scripts and various audio recordings for the study of radio drama.
