Abstract

This is the last of two volumes deriving from the second Perspectives on Mathematical Practices conference (PMP2007), which was held at the Free University of Brussels (VUB), Belgium, from 26 to 28 March, 2007. Whereas a first volume (Van Kerkhove 2009) has already addressed various aspects of the question how the philosophy of mathematicsrelates to the history of mathematics, the present volume rather focuses on philosophical matters themselves. The papers have been organised in four clusters, which we have however chosen not to formally separate in distinct parts of the book. The reason is that many, if not most, of the contributions simply resist to being exclusively classified in either of the clusters distinguished by us. Before all, we have sought a way to present the available material to the reader in an orderly manner, the result being just one of the possible ways of achieving this.
