Abstract

In this article Franciscus van den Enden is considered as a libertine freethinker and author of three texts on political theory that defend democracy. He belongs to the libertine tradition in the style of his writings as well as in the radically new content organized around a naturalism that is not defeatist but forms the basis for self-determination and political activism. For him, knowledge is a critique and a social task to be made public through education and publications in Dutch.
