Abstract

The article investigates Polybius' account of the Ebro treaty and the Gallic invasion of 225 BC, showing that, while the Romans were preparing for war with Carthage at the start of the war, they were forced to sign the Ebro treaty by the Gallic invasion, which, in contrast to Polybius' claim, they were not expecting.
