Abstract

This paper examines the importance of participation in social, cultural and recreational activities (abbreviated as: socio-cultural participation) for people living in poverty. It exploits some theoretical views on socio-cultural participation and examines how the stimulation of this type of participation is integrated in social policies in Europe. Using the case of Belgium, we trace how policy makers can stimulate the participation of poor people in a structural and effective way.
