Abstract

In this paper I examine the treatment of race, langage and nationhood at the world exhibitions held during the fin de siècle in Belgium. More specifically I investigate whether the way that the world exhibitions treated foreign, non-Western cultures in terms of 'race' can be compared to the way that supporters of the Flemish Movement promoted racial identity through the world exhibition and its media.
